Pioneer’s latest development could help you keep all your data in one nice, little circular package. The Japanese electronics maker has been working on an optical disc, which, like Blu-ray, can store 25GB of data in a single layer. But Pioneer says it’s one-upped the high-definition format to the sixteenth degree. The company announced today that it has a single disc that contains 16 layers of storage, at 25GB each. That adds up to 400GB of data capable of being stored on a single disc.</p>
<p>Blu-ray comes in single layer (25GB) and dual-layer (50GB) flavors. Pioneer does say that because the lens specification for reading the discs is similar to Blu-ray, “it is possible to maintain compatibility” between its disc and Blu-ray discs. That’s not saying it will be compatible, but it would make sense since Pioneer is one of the original Blu-ray Disc Association members. However, plans for that archiving project will have to be put on pause if you want to use this technology. Pioneer is going to demonstrate it at an industry conference next week, but for now the disc is read-only. Eventually, they’ll add write capability as well.</p>

its not needed, HDDVD is teh future
HD-DVD is officially dead as a format.
Toshiba stopped all production of players and discs, and they dont even sell hd-dvd films no more.
but you can get hd dvd's fucking cheap... lost seasons are like £20
lol yeh, they dropped it about 3 months ago. it failed even harder than the rls' of blu ray sales, so they dropped and got rid of it.

My dad and my sister have macs, What a peice of shit they are.
HD-DVD as a format was better imo as it had the name behind it and was MUCH easier and cheaper to produce.
Ps3 is a very good deal considering you get probably the best blu ray player with a pretty decent console for about 300 quid.
If i had the cash i would get one and mgs4 :D

Tom your so oppinionated its unreal, macs are expensive and dont have the full compatability, but you can just install windows, and macs design is very inituitive, im not a mac fanboi, but i dont hate them like most people. Like most people that get the xbox 360, they love the xbox and think its the best console, even thought the ps3 is quieter, better and has blu ray..

oppinionated...right, no idea what your getting at here, but basicly what you have just said is "oppinions" like how the ps3 is quiter and better, so umm go fuck tbh, i dont really care, i dont get off with myself about the best machinery around, Just like how i didnt know they didnt make hdvds any more and all that bollocks about blueray lol, i buy what i want and waht i like
And I think macs fail end off, coz tbh they suck
Macs are really really gay, they charge almost 50% more than a normal computer company becuase your paying for the brand name, its like fucking addidas, diesel and any other brand clothing its not needed and costs more for no reason at all.
And i dont think the ps3 is better per-se, they just cater for different markets.
i've got a mac g3, although i don't use it anymore (being quite out of date now) they are still very powerful and alot better for productive work such as music, art, video etc. but the prices of macs and the software/hardware is stupid, although being based on unix does make it alot more stable than windows fail dos format :)
i've not actually had the oppurtunity to view or play any ps3 games but from what i've read and seen, the blu-ray will eventually replace the dvd and being the ultimate in storage and quality films, imagine a film @ 20 times the quality of HD or having 20 times the content over standard HD, you can't say thats fail.

yeah ps3 has a REALLY GOOD ONLINE SYSTEM(not)

and all those great titles have only taken like 2 years to come out
and tbh the l2 and r2 trigger buttons are shit and break preety easy.
Only game worth having on ps3 is mgs4.

Story style, graphics, gameplay its all there.
It also has a metal gear fight (rex vs ray) which i want to play bad.

ive never been a fan of mgs, i completed number 2 but didnt like it that much, the one in the jungle was alright..but im not really into all these stealthy games n stuff cba aint got patience...just like splinter cell lol can never play them
mgs4 has guns, lots of guns and weapon modding too.
