We'll after a few months of being MIA and filtering out all non-communitive members we are down to the last few SD peeps

Things are not the same as the used to be but we're still having fun

The future isn't quite clear as to where SD is heading but its not dead yet!! Although theres only a very small handful of people left, we may end up going back to our r00ts and restart a FPS community

Oh yea we have a new 10 slot vent:

if you need the password or account ask me on steam

I will be working on updating the site to clear up most of the un-needed stuff and making it slimmer and more compact, hopefully make it work better on mobile devices aswell

New to the AvP games I wasn't sure what to expect and although I have only played the demo, I wasn't too impressed. However other people do recommend it and I suppose I would to if I played it enough and got used to the controls and how the game plays.
The game does play fairly well but again its another Peer2Peer setup which seems to be the popular lazy dev's way out of developing their own network and or paying to use someone elses network.
As you would expect you get to play as 3 different characters (kinda FFA aswell) but there are Marines/Aliens/Predator and with each character you have a few different weapons but you first need to find these scattered throughout the map, which gives that kinda goldeneye game feel
If your into your AvP then this game is probably worth getting

ABOUT THE GAME
Bringing the legendary war between two of science-fiction's most popular characters to FPS fans, AvP delivers three outstanding single player campaigns and provides untold hours of unique 3-way multiplayer gaming.
Experience distinctly new and thrilling first person gameplay as you survive, hunt and prey in the deadly jungles and swamps surrounding the damned colony of Freya's Prospect.
  • As the Marine, you'll experience a claustrophobic and terrifying experience where light is your friend, but there's never enough. However, the United States Marine Corps are humanity's last line of defense, and as such they are armed to the teeth with the very latest in high explosive and automatic weaponry.
  • As the Predator, you will stalk from the shadows and from above, passing athletically through the treetops to ambush your victims. Although equipped with an array of powerful, exotic weapons and tracking equipment, honor ultimately dictates that you must get in close and take your trophies face to face.
  • As the most deadly species in the universe, the Alien offers you the chance to play as the very stuff of nightmares - the monster in the dark swarming forward with countless others, jaws like a steel trap and claws like blades.
  • Play all sides off against each other in a series of unique 3-way online modes and go tooth-to-claw-to-pulse rifle in the reinvention of one of multiplayer gaming's defining moments.
AvP uses the Steam Cloud to store game stats and skill information, which is then used for matchmaking purposes.

After gettinig 1/2 hooked on COD4 I had high expectations for COD6, however there are a few bad points which still haven't and probably wont ever be addressed eg. No Dedicated Servers (Peer2Peer Setup) and No Vote Kick Option
Although I knew about these bad points before the game was released I was still looking forward to playing this, first impressions was very good, the peer2peer setup was occasionaly annoying but generally played very well. The leveling system has been expanded quite a bit since COD4 including the Prestige leveling which basically meant once you get to level 70 (the highest level) you could choose to prestige which would unlock an extra class and a few other items including specific emblems. Only bad thing to this is that you loose all your weapons and weapon unlocks, although this does give you an incentive to play more to level up again
After I had prestiged for the 1st time, I felt robbed by loosing all my weapons / perks etc, and so I decided once I reached lvl 70 again I would not prestige again, this gave me the oppurtunity to play with all weapons and numerous different setups incase I decided to prestige again
Overall this game is very fun, although the Peer2Peer setup can and occasionaly does let the game down by having a random guy in south of spain with 56k become the host of 18 people, usually ending up with pings around 800-1000 which can be very frustrating. Still a game that is well worth the money

Not being the biggest Battlefield fan, I felt let down by Call of Duty MW2 and was looking for a new FPS game to take its place. After playing the beta I was not 100% convinced that this game was going to be something special, needless to say I still bought the game as you can't really judge a game by its beta stage.
There have been countless fixes on the official release and although there still are some ping bugs the game is very enjoyable (until your whole team is being over-run by the enemy)

Its definitely a game worth getting if your into FPS games, although £35 to some people is alot of money

Most of you if not all already know about the move, but due to the inactiveness of squaredisc during the 1st quarter of this year I decided it was time to move onwards and upwards. I have been friends with a few of the eck members for a while now helping them out in places and decided that they were the perfect team to merge / join as they have an ever growing active community and numerous teams so by squaredisc joining them this will help boost their e-rep even more and help boost their community.

All squaredisc members are more than welcome to join us, just goto www.clan-killers.com/forum and signup (i'll be redoing their front page soon - as its poo imo ). All our existing public servers will remain the same setup, the admin will change though as we need to give people the insentive to donate for admin

Btw the vent ip is voice403.hurricanehost.com:4816

Anyways its been a great 5 years of running sd-gaming, I will still keep all the sites up and maintained but the content for sd-gaming will probably stop as I wont posting anything major anymore on here, i will eventually redo squaredisc.com with something new some day until then this is it

Not sure on the exact date, but it was around the time I got my steam account, which was april 2004.

Anyways yea as the title says SquareDisc is 5 years old now, it all started with me and scorpion lanning 1.6 then oshoryu got playing and we all started playing online together, a month or 2 later we decided to all chip in and get our own 20 slot 1.6 server and I first made a clan site, zehrkool.co.uk (closest example i can get atm) - gone now , then moved to squaredisc.com (back then was a dodgy site with frames but with some nifty flash - well i thought it was back then ) then we moved to sdclan.co.uk which some of you still remember, being a basic site with quite a few functions, after a year or so we moved to sd-gaming.co.uk (only example i can get of old site) and alot more functions and stuff were added and still are being developed.

We have seen alot of members come and go over the years, but heres a list of the ppl that I remember / have listed on sites (probs forgot loads ):
Fax (duh), Scorpion, Oshoryu, Commando, Silver, Kickass, Cpl.Punishment, Commander Cool, Razerblackice, Hamster, Girl Nona, Rifleman, Paranoid Android, Vadigor, Bulletmagnet, Pimpman, Mac, Ducky, Figgles, Purdy, El Puffino, Daz, Flash Media, Marc, Hitman, Pistol Whipper, Raymond, Scottay, TC89, wF*-1 - you got b33f?, BizaRRe!, Oz, Fallen, Remix, Volume, Matty, Yeznik, Crafty Croc, Banksy, Aim Me (exile), Mister Wolf, Night Hawk, 8Bit, 98p, Adage, Andy, Bendy, Blackeagle, Blitz, Ceegee, Charly, Craig, Crokey, Dirty, Dizzy, Fug, Geeza, Grim, Holbers, Holy, Hummingman, Syphon, Josh, Jale, JC, JME, Joe Catshoe, Joypi, Kai, Kojaimea, Laganuphobia, Legoman, Muffinman, Music Kid, Tom, Phoenix, Purpley11, remo, Solidus, Scott, Raven, Silent Sniper, Soul, Souless, Spliffbrew, Thuglife, Toasted, wisso, Zabuza

Alot has changed since then but the idea is still the same, to have fun playing games with friends

» Dedi upgraded to QuadCore & new public servers
Subscribe to this thread Mar 23, 2009 - 12:52 PM - by Fax

Yesterday I had the pleasure of uploading / installing / configuring / testing 4 new public servers, the current setups include the following:
  • Dust 24/7 - 100 tic (82.136.24.1:27015) + zBlock & HLStatsX (ingame enabled)
  • Fun Server - 66 tic (82.136.24.1:27016) + custom scripts eg. ich_checkpoints for climb maps, and my script for surfing etc
  • RPG - 66 tic (82.136.24.1:27017) > Proper RPG Mod not the script
  • Standard Maps - 100 tic (82.136.24.1:27018) + zBlock & HLStatsX (ingame enabled)
- All use Sourcemod 1.2 & Eventscripts 2.0

Was mucking around on the rpg with 20 bots last night and it kept a stable 66 tic, which is quite shocking considering how much cpu bots actually use. The dust & standard maps server kept a healthy 100 tic which is very promising.
Only downfall noticed yesterday was BT users getting high pings between 100-200, will leave this for a few days, if it persists I will raise a ticket.

There is still quite a bit of tweaking I need to do, however I'll get this done during this week. I will also be pruning the admin list sometime over the next couple of days.

To use in-game admin you need to type in console "sm_admin", for the fun & rpg servers you can access the skins list by saying "!models" also hlstatsx is fully working on the dust & std map servers, say "/hlx" for the full HLStatsX ingame menu

I have also installed a DOD, TF2, L4D, CS1.6 & COD4 (home pc may still be uploading it) however these are all off by default, and will depend on the success of the current css setups whether they get switched on.

Server specs
Hardware: Intel Core2 Q9550 2.83ghz 12mb cache 4GB DDR2 PC5400
Software: Ubuntu Linux 8.10

Team 1 have been accepted and fixtures have been released, this is a preferred lan team toruney

Quote:
EDCSSL Season 13 will commence on Tuesday 24th March 2009.
Clans who do not gain entry into the league will automatically be put into the draw for the Challenge Cup to be run alongside EDCSSL.

All games will take place on Tuesday night at 21:00 GMT. This competition is a standard league format. Each division will be 8 clans, and we will have 10 divisions.

Entrance is based primarily on reliability and secondly on appropriate skill level for divisions with spaces available. All teams that completed Season 12 will be guaranteed entry if they re-apply.

Rules:
All normal gametype rules apply unless otherwise stated below.

ED CSS League Rules
1 - All normal ED rules apply unless otherwise stated in this section.

2 - All games will be played on a clan’s server; clans in the league MUST have their own server to play matches on. The ED CSS MR15 config MUST be used, without exception. MR15 cfg is 1:45 rounds and 10 second freezetime.

3 - Rescheduling is allowed if both clans can agree on a new date, there is a Catch-Up Week at the end of the season; all games must be played by the Sunday of that week (Sunday 17th May). Clans MUST post in the match notes that a reschedule is requested. It is up to the teams involved to come to an agreement and post in the match notes the outcome of the reschedule. If no agreement is reached the divisional admin will make a ruling. If a date is agreed and the match fixture is updated to reflect that new date then it is classed as the official date and any changes must be requested as a new reschedule.

4 - If a clan leaves before completion of the 2nd week of games, a clan from the waiting list will be given the opportunity to take that place. However they will not be re-playing matches that have already taken place. If a clan folds mid-season all their future AND played fixtures will become default losses (counted as 0-8.)

5 - The scoring system will be as follows:
--- 3 points for a win
--- 1 point for a draw
--- 0 points for a loss
Note: All 30 round must be played, any team that leaves before the game has finished will lose the remaining rounds.

6 - Defaults are DEFAULT - 0 (and carry +8 rounds) and should be entered by Team won by default on the 'ENTER RESULT' page.

7 - At the end of the season, teams tied on points and eligible for promotion or relegation will be separated by round difference. When the round difference is equal, the result between the 2 teams will be used to separate them. The top 2 teams will be promoted for the next season; the bottom 2 will be relegated.

8 - XAC is mandatory for all players.
